Jensine and her husband Mathew
I have been on two horse pack/riding trips with Mike's Outdoors and am going out for a third with my husband.
There are so many things about the trips that I enjoy that I haven't settled on one favorite part. I love the beautiful locations, the high mountains mixed with the valleys and meadows. The lakes, streams, creeks and rivers are incredible and there are all kinds of plant, bird, and even animal life around to catch a glimpse or viewing of. Then, there is the experience of riding the horses, being out in the peaceful quiet, and feeling a sense of security in the stillness; the calmness.
A big plus to the trip is the excellent campfire cooking Mike does. There are no hungry bellies after a meal and it is always fascinating to watch such a delicious meal being prepared over an open fire.
The trips are positive and fun with good, cheerful attitudes from those who go. Each trip I have been on was a relaxing break from all the daily activities, whether good or bad, that life brings. It is a chance to "get away" and take a deep breath and think.Jensine MosierThe photos above are from Jensine's latest trip into the Marble Mountain Wilderness, which included Mat, Jensine's husband.
The fish photo is from the Thousand Lakes Wilderness trip. We caught more than we could eat in just three hours; fishing in the middle of the day!A note from Mike:All together Jensine has had the pleasure of experiencing the Trinity Alps, Marble Mountain, and Thousand Lakes Wildernesses. Her smile brightens the forests.
Hello, my name is Doug and this is my friend Ken and this is my other friend Ken. Doug is on the far left, (Ya have to be a fan of the old TV show Hee Haw in order to get that inside joke)
They wanted to get away from the hunters and still have a chance at filling out their tags. There were a few other hunters on opening weekend, but after that, the Alps were all ours. Two of them got their deer while the other turned down the opportunity to take home a fine young buck.
See more of their story on The '09-'10 Hunting Season page.
Going home with his first bear!
Although our bear hunting record was 100% this year, our recording of the successful hunts was near zero. It seemed that there was always something that prevented us from taking photos of the hunts. We did manage to get this hunt recorded. David's hunt was not typical, in that it lasted all of 3 hours. Our houndsman put his best dog down to “test” the track and at first we thought the dog just took off, which would have been very odd indeed. Rather, we were to discover later, he got on the bear’s trail just on the other side of the ridge where nobody could hear him sound off. By the time we figured out what had happened the lone dog had treed the 300 pound bear, all by himself. What a dog! Our hunter was happy for sure.
David got a fine shot off from a difficult position and the hunt was finished in good form.
Good friends and good hunting make for a fine day and pleasant memories that will last a life time.
Thanks guys.
Let's do it again soon.
